About Us

Normandie has been in our family for over 4 decades, the house has been built in 1954 where Louis and Hetta van der Merwe lived in for 34 years after moving from their farm in Franschhoek to retire at the sea. They named the house after the family farm they owned in Franschhoek – called Normandie.

We decided to keep the name Normandie and just add “On Sea” because it was the family’s holiday home before they permanently moved to Hermanus.

In 1999 Louis van der Merwe passed away, his wife still stayed alone in the house with their Toypom dog until the age of 90 when she moved to an old age home in Hermanus. (Huis Lettie Theron – 2018)

In August 2018 we decided to renovate Normandie and make it a guest house. We removed the carpets, gave the furniture a face lift and made some changes in the kitchen bitcoin vanity address and bathroom. After a few months Normandie On Sea was born. We try to offer guests a home away from home and make it as comfortable as possible.
